Tropical Forests of South America/Areas with patchy canopy cover and strong undergrowth
Size: 8 to 9" tall (10 to 13" tail only) • Weight: 300 to 600g
The Goeldi's Monkey is a small, adorable monkey that grows to an average height of 8 to 9 inches, not including its tail which is typically 10 to 13 inches long. With silky, dark brown fur and big, round eyes, these playful primates are the definition of cuteness overload.
These tiny monkeys are very group-oriented, often living with up to 8 other monkeys, and will rarely travel more than 45 feet from the rest of their group. They are so devoted to their groups that they will groom each other as a way of strengthening their bonds. How cute is that?
Their diet consists of insects and other small invertebrates which they forage for in the rainforest canopy. They also have a sweet tooth and enjoy eating fruits (yes, that includes bananas) as well as flowers. With such a varied diet, it's no wonder these little monkeys are always on the move! Goeldi's Monkeys are vertical climbers known for their incredible jumping ability. Despite their small size, these pint-sized primates can leap up to 13 feet from tree to tree! That's like jumping over two refrigerators stacked on top of each other.
